What we do
Over the last couple of years Lancashire CRN has grown stronger and achieved some big milestones
- We awarded nine Community Solutions grants to help build members’ capacity to achieve their aims and divert waste from landfill. Our new Community Waste Solutions grant is now open for applications!;
- Training workshops on fundraising, business planning, marketing and publicity and managing & motivating volunteers, with more in the pipeline;
- Visits to Furniture Matters in Morecambe, Emerge in Manchester and The Mustard Tree in Manchester for members to learn best practice and gain advice;
- A half day conference in December 2009 bringing the Network together with Universities and Colleges to encourage reuse partnerships - and in 2011 following two successful years of summer reuse initiatives, Lancaster University's Exodus Project wins the Green Gown Award for Student Campaigns and Initiatives!;
- Supporting the development of new bulky waste services by members in Lancashire, including Rossendale, Blackpool and Preston;
- Supporting the development of commercial waste collection services by members in Lancashire, including Brothers of Charity in Chorley, Helping Hand in Blackpool and Phuil the Box in West Lancs;
- Monthly newsletters with news, events and funding sources – and more recently with a Lancashire CRN Feature on what we offer members, or member news;
- Annual conferences on different themes important to members; most recently “Strengthen, Survive & Thrive” the recession beating conference for 2010 and "Provide, Prove and Prosper" in 2011;
- Red Rose Recycling Awards ceremony and networking event (see Our Awards tab) which recognise, celebrate and promote the achievments of Lancashire's community waste sector. The awards have been renamed the 'Red Rose Resource Awards' and were most recently held in September 2011.
In addition to these aims, Lancashire CRN is committed to facilitating the Community Solutions programme. Community Solutions is designed to help improve and strengthen the position of community sector groups and organisations in relation to waste reduction, reuse, recycling and local market development activities.
The Lancashire Community Recycling Network:

- Are funded through the waste Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract delivered by Global Renewables on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Blackpool Council
