Age Concern Lancashire is a Countywide charity working with and for older people. We believe that later life should be valued and fulfilling. Our funding comes from a number of sources - grants from local authorities, donations, legacies, our charity shops and sales of our insurance services and other products such as gas and electricity for anyone over the age of 50.
We have 6 charity shops located throughout the county which offer a wide range of quality, nearly-new, clothing and accessories for all ages. Using these shops gives you the opportunity for a bargain whilst helping Age Concern Lancashire generate much needed income. The shops are crucial to the work of our organisation by helping to support the type of services for older people which are not regarded as a priority by the statutory sectors. Our shops operate to a high standard with fully trained staff and volunteers, and rely on donations of goods to sell. Anyone interested in donating items to be sold can drop things in to their local shop.

We manage smallholdings for the production of organic, high welfare horticultural and agricultural products and we provide a range of accredited training courses in horticulture, agriculture, catering, baking and other skills for working life to individuals who are disadvantaged in some way. These include people with disabilities, mental health challenges and other difficulties, the aim being to help them become better included in society and provide them with opportunities for full time employment.
We are proud that Stable Trading are working together with Lancashire Wildlife Trust as the occupiers and managers of the retail outlet at their new visitor centre at Brockholes; "The Larder on the Lake". The visitor centre opened in April 2011 and is situated on a floating platform in the middle of a lake, with access over a drawbridge. We also have another exciting project in development and will announce more information soon!

St Catherine's Hospice have 11 charity shops, together with e-trading and eBay raising much needed funds for the Hospice. Our shops provide a focal point for many of our supporters, or for those who have become personally involved with the Hospice. The shops are places to pop into where friendships are formed, you'll get a warm welcome as well as a bargain! Five of the shops sell good quality (sometimes new) donated clothing, bric a brac, books and other items at greatly reduced prices. We have several specialist shops and other retail activities including a gift shop, book shops, a wedding shop, two furniture shops, an online shop selling christmas cards and calendars and a coffee bar at Preston Magistrates Court, Preston.
We are so grateful to all those who continue to donate furniture, clothing, homewares and bric a brac but due to the restrictions imposed on waste and our duty of care in ensuring that waste is removed safely, we ask you to please make sure that all your donations are in good condition, not broken and meet with Trading Standards compliance. We have a convenient (and award-winning) 'drive in and drop off' donation centre which is currently being moved into the grounds of St Catherine's Hospice in Lostock Hall, to help make donating and supporting us even easier. TotalReuse is a Utopia where every citizen of the world works towards finding an alternative use for everything we throw away. It’s a portal where individuals, multinational companies, educational institutions, designers, inventors and entrepreneurs’ can exchange ideas, skills, knowledge and experiences motivated by wanting to help the planet become more sustainable, or simply to make a difference rather than a profit.
Our first choice is always reuse. By reuse we mean trying to find a new home for an unwanted item thereby prolonging its life cycle. That’s why we have opened retail outlets in Skelmersdale and Bootle. We also sell items on eBay and in our on line shop. When an item is not ready for a new home for whatever reason we use a variety of processes to restore it, rebuild it or remanufacture it. Visit our website for examples of our work!
Following the Red Rose Resource Awards, Total Reuse's 'Tool Shed' project is Lancashire CRN's Best Community Project for 2011!
