Yummy Bums win Best Recycling Project

22nd Nov 2011

Congratulations to Yummy Bums for winning Best Recycling Project at the Lancashire Green Awards!

Lancashire CRN member Yummy Bums was established in 2010 by Sarah Parry who was made redundant after having her daughter Esme. During her pregnancy Sarah, a keen sewer and clothing designer, made all of Esme's nappies from reclaimed and roll-end fabrics. The nappies drew a lot of attention from other parents and Sarah saw this as an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact disposable nappies have on the environment, and how this waste stream can be diverted from landfill.

Online sales of these reusable nappies help fund the YummyBums Posh Wosh - a convenient and easy way of laundering nappies rather than washing them at home. More details about this service can be found on their website.

In July 2011, Yummy Bums nappies were featured in Vogue Magazine in a feature on Eco-Parenting, and in November their efforts at promoting and facilitating green parenting were rewarded at the Lancashire Green Awards.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, designer Sarah said "The award was an absolute blessing. I was so shocked I clambered up the stage on the wrong side!"

Lancashire CRN Coordinator Dawn Welham said "YummyBums was only started in 2010 and was the smallest organisation of the four finalists, so it is great to see their achivements recognised at the Lancashire Green Awards - congratulations to Sarah, Esme and team!

The Best Recycling Project was sponsored by United Utilities and was open to any group, organisation or company that addresses environmental issues through its actions.
