Brighter Future workshop win prestigious Guardian Award

And the winner of The Guardian Social Enterprise Award is...Lancashire CRN member Brighter Future Workshop.

Brighter Future Workshop Limited specialises in recycling, repairing and reselling of mobility equipment. They also give provide opportunities for young, disadvantaged and disabled people to work with them to help recycle the equipment that is donated. The judges felt that Brighter Future was a genuinely sustainable business, delivering real social and environmental impact.

They emerged as the winners after a vote of delegates at the Guardian Social Enterprise Summit 2011. The award is supported by Bates Wells and Braithwaite and Haysmacintyre, and aimed to find the UK's most promising social enterprise with the potential to make a big impact.

Four finalists were selected from enteries across the country for the Guardian Social Enterprise Award - two of which were from Lancashire; East Lancs Moneyline and overall winner, Brighter Future Workshop.

Brighter Future Workshop are a member of Lancashire CRN and won the Red Rose Recycling Award for Best Community Enterprise in 2009 (pictured) for their unique and inspirational work. For their impressive list of regional and national awards, click here.

"At Lancashire CRN we know that something is not 'waste' just because one person has finished with it. There are community groups across Lancashire and across the country who make use of unwanted items, and support local people in need through their different activities" said Lancashire CRN Coordinator, Dawn Welham.

"It is fantastic to see a community organisation from Lancashire win this prestigious award - Brighter Future Workshop refurbish mobility equipment which may otherwise have been disposed of. Refurbishing these items and finding them new homes benefits the environment as well as providing access to affordable mobility equipment for people in need which greatly enhances their wellbeing. This organisation also provide accreditted training helping young disabled and disadvantaged people have a better chance in life. Huge congratulations to Peter Cousins MBE and everyone from the Brighter Future Team."
